계산적 특이점과 비인간 사이를 보간하기
이 책은 〈비미래를 위한 생태학〉이라는 예술 연구를 기반으로 하는 전시 《인기생물》 에서 출발하는 책이다. 이 작업은 가상과 실재 사이의 모호해지는 경계 사이에서 생성 신경망, 데이터셋, 컴퓨터 비전을 인류세 시대의 재난에 대한 비평적 관찰자이자 해석자로 호출하는 프로젝트이다. 또한 거대 생성 모델로의 급격한 전환 속에 그 의미를 잃고 있는 사적인 데이터셋을 여전히 사용하며 인공지능의 예측적이고 추출적 성격을 다르게 바꾸어 놓는다. 즉 과거를 호출하고 부재하는 것들을 드러내는 방식으로 뒤집어 질문하는 매개물로 만든다. 그를 통해 예측으로 점철된 실체 없는 존재와 시간의 차원을 이 시대가 직면하고 있는 재난의 풍경으로 전달한다. <비미래를 위한 생태학>의 스크립트는 일종의 레퍼런스로 6명의 필진들에게 보내어졌고, 필진들은 이를 출발점 삼아 다른 담론적 해석과 개인적 감각을 환기하는 글을 보내어 주었다. 생태와 인공 지능, 그리고 존재론 사이에 예측하기 어려운 누수와 감각, 곤궁의 지점들을 짚는 필자들의 글은 기이한 해방의 감각과 인간의 존재를 부식시키는 감각이 공존하는 지금, 우리는 어떤 보간을 그 경계 속에 그려 볼 수 있을까를 생각하게 한다.

Interpolating Between Computational Singularities and Non-Humans
This book diverges from the "Popular Creature" exhibition, anchoring itself in the artistic research project called "Ecology for the Non-Futures". It engages with generative neural networks, datasets, and computer vision to critically examine the Anthropocene's disasters, blurring the lines between the virtual and the real. The project challenges the predictive and extractive nature of artificial intelligence by repurposing speculative and private datasets, which are becoming less meaningful in the shift towards large-scale generative models. It uses these datasets to question and reinterpret the past, unveiling what is missing. This process shifts the focus from mere predictions to the actual disasters of our time.
The script of "Ecology for the Non-Futures" was shared with six writers as a reference point, prompting them to respond with their interpretations and personal insights. Their writings explore the uncertain spaces between ecology, artificial intelligence, and ontology, inviting us to think about the connections we can draw across these boundaries.
