This lecture performance combines taxidermy and AI. It traces the visual grammar of the images produced by both, exploring their relationship with human culture.

렉처 퍼포먼스 <기계의 우화>는 한 과학관 수장고에서 오래도록 보관되어 있던 호랑이 박제의 무리를 목격한 것에서 출발한다. 작가들은 이 호랑이들을 단서로 박제술과 인공지능이라는 두 기술을 접합한다. 하나는 죽은 동물의 피부를 통해 생명의 이미지를 재구성하고, 다른 하나는 데이터에서 패턴을 추출해 동물의 초상을 생성한다. 작업은 박제와 AI가 만들어내는 이러한 이미지들의 시각 문법을 따라가며, 선택과 배제, 기묘한 글리치, 그리고 인간 문화와의 관계성을 탐색한다. 동시에 이 두 기술이 단순한 재현을 넘어, 잔여의 영역에 주목하는 다른 접근법이 될 수는 없는지 묻는다.

Unmake Lab’s lecture performance The Fables of Machines begins with an encounter with a group of taxidermied tigers that had long been kept in the storage room of a science museum. Using these tigers as a starting point, the artists bring together two technologies: taxidermy and artificial intelligence. One reconstructs the image of life through the skin of a dead animal, while the other generates animal portraits by extracting patterns from data.

Tracing the visual grammar of the images produced by taxidermy and AI, the work explores processes of selection and exclusion, peculiar glitches, and their relationship to human culture. At the same time, it asks whether these two technologies might move beyond simple representation and become alternative approaches to computation from the margins.
